The penalties for violation of federal copyright laws are:
- Dollar amount of damages and profits
- $200 to $150,000 for each work infringed
- All attorneys’ fees and court costs
- Injunction to stop the infringing act(s)
- Court can impound the illegal works
- Incarceration

- No credit given for the assignment
- Expulsion
- Civil and criminal penalties
